The Parent Advisory Council 2009-10 consists of:

Tienna Rowley – President

Aline Simoens - Liaison between Westmount and Ste. Marie School

Ste. Marie Parent Advisory meeting

November 25th, 2009

 

-Tienna called the meeting to order at 7:40 pm.

-present were Tienna, Diane, Sherri V, Albert, Nicole, Aline, Marianne, Janice.

 

-Secretary report (Diane)

-minutes of last meeting read by Diane-- seconded by Sherri.

 

-Treasurers report (Marianne)

-Bazaar profits were 1522.92. (after expenses)-a little down from last year.

 

-chequing- 2897.13 plan 24- 1198.92

-landscaping- 477.68 share - 11.00

-share equity- 5.00

-term deposit-3030.96 parent donations- 1000.00

 

-received a bill to pay the division 4299.17-payment was discussed. A motion was made by Nicole and seconded by Aline to pay the bill as soon as possible.

-Treasurers report was read by Marianne and seconded by Sherri.

 

-Principals report (Janice)

-parent day had a 100% turn out.

-discussed assessment. Emphasis on lots of practice doing work, projects etc. before the final mark is given. (learning is the end result that is looked at for marks.)

-Artist in the school/field trip: felt that it was worthwhile.

-wanted to know if the newsletters being sent out monthly were being read or if they should eliminate them. It was discussed and decided that yes we like the newsletters and would like them to continue.

 

Trustee report (Albert)

-reported the audited financial statements of Prairie Spirit-our level of surplus is worrisome and that further attention will be required. The board looks forward to government funding announcements in January.

-Further government regulations with regard to buildings and operations will force Prairie Spirit to spend $140,000 by Jan 2010.

-The board planning session held in Winnipeg was completed and information gathered will be aligned with previous reports to achieve some streamlining and progressive change in the school division.

-Bus catchment’s review is happening in Somerset and St. Claude.

-The board is planning to host a meeting with hutterrian leaders and educators in the near future.

-discussion ensued as to possible programming and staffing arrangements in the reconfigured schools.

 

 

Old business (Tienna)

---Bazaar—hotplates should have been used (the hall has them)

---Poker derby - combing stations for parents with more than one child in that area.

---50/50 - possibly go around and sell tickets instead of a designated spot.

---the president needs to delegate jobs to other members. (Form small committees-for example someone responsible for poker derby set up.)

---need to buy playing cards for poker derby.

 

 

New business

-speaker Heidie Arnold wants to speak to our group about International education and the need for home stay families. All agreed to look into this.

-Christmas concert is Dec. 17 at 1 pm. (storm date is the 18th)

-Nicole will order the food from the lucky dollar in Swan Lake.

-Tienna will order the beverages from Marginets.

-Nicole will call Danica about Santa Suit.

-Still looking for father Christmas.

-cups from credit union.

-Aline will put together the treat bags.

-Diane will put a thank you in the paper for the Bazaar.

 

Westmount Rep (Aline)

-Armed forces rep and their display was in school – they talked to students about how the reserves work in Portage and the job opportunities available.

-11 and 12's job shadowing completed.

-gr.9 's take our kids to work was on Nov. 4.

-volleyball is finished, mustang’s hockey well under way.

-Christmas concert Dec 16 @ 7:30pm.

-noticed cell phone use is increasing (reviewing expectations and consequences with the students)

-results for parental survey:

-parents want the 2 schools to algamate one being elementary and one high school.
